Installing Google Chrome on Windows: A Step-by-Step Approach
Step 1: Ensure You Have an Internet
Connection
Since it's a fresh Windows install, you'll need to
connect to the internet. This might involve connecting to your Wi-Fi network or
using an Ethernet cable.
Step 2: Open Microsoft Edge (the
default browser)
Windows comes with Microsoft Edge as its default web
browser. You'll use this to download Chrome. You can find it on your taskbar
(the bar at the bottom of your screen) or by searching for it in the Start
Menu.
Step 3: Go to the Google Chrome
Download Page
In the address bar of Microsoft Edge (the long bar at
the top where you type website addresses), type www.google.com/chrome/ and
press Enter.
This will take you to the official Google Chrome
download page.
Step 4: Download Google Chrome
On the Google Chrome page, you will see a blue button
that says "Download Chrome". Click on this button.
A pop-up might appear asking you to agree to Google's
Terms of Service. Read the terms and click "Accept and Install" (or a
similar button).
Your browser (Microsoft Edge) will start downloading
the Chrome installer file. You will likely see a download progress indicator at
the bottom of the Edge window.
Step 5: Run the Chrome Installer
Once the download is complete, you have a few ways to
run the installer:
Directly from Edge: At
the bottom of the Edge window, you might see a notification that the download
is finished with an option to "Run" or "Open file". Click
this to start the installation.
Using File Explorer:
Open File Explorer (you can find it on the taskbar or
by searching in the Start Menu).
In the left-hand pane, click on the
"Downloads" folder.
Look for a file named "ChromeSetup.exe" or
a similar name.
Double-click this file to start the installation.
Step 6: Allow Chrome to Make Changes
Windows User Account Control (UAC) might ask,
"Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?".
Click "Yes" to proceed with the installation.
Step 7: Wait for Installation
The Google Chrome installer will now download any
necessary files and install the browser on your computer. This process usually
takes a few minutes, depending on your internet speed.
Step 8: Google Chrome is Installed!
Once the installation is complete, Google Chrome will usually open automatically. You will now see the Chrome window.
Step 9: Set Google Chrome as Your Default Browser (Optional but Recommended)
When Chrome opens for the first time, it might ask if you want to set it as your default browser.
If you see the prompt: Click "Set as default" and follow the on-screen
instructions. This will usually open the Windows
Settings app where you'll need to choose Chrome as the default
browser for web browsing.
If you don't see the prompt or want to do it later:
Click the Start Menu (Windows icon in the bottom-left
corner).
Click the Settings icon (gear icon).
Go to Apps and then Default apps.
Under "Web
browser", click on the currently selected browser (likely Microsoft
Edge).
In the "Choose an
app" window, select Google Chrome.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed
Google Chrome on your fresh Windows installation. You can now close Microsoft
Edge and start using Chrome for your browsing needs. Watch the video below for
